Sargodha wants its own high court bench

SARGODHA:

District Bar Association, political organisations and traders started a signature drive for a High Court bench in Sargodha on Friday. On an appeal of the District Bar Association (DBA), lawyers boycotted the courts and set up a protest camp outside district courts.

Traders and political workers also set up a camp at Karkhana Bazaar, where hundreds of lawyers, businessmen and locals signed a document in favour of establishing a High Court bench in Sargodha.  Addressing the gathering, DBA president Mehmood Ahmed said that the purpose of the campaign was to remind the Punjab government to fulfil its promises of a new high court bench.

“This isn’t only the demand of the lawyer community but also reflects the wishes of Sargodha’s residents,” he said.

Anjuman Tajran President Khawaja Ahmed Hanif said the High Court bench was necessary for speedy and affordable justice for the people.

“If the demand is not fulfilled the whole community will continue to sage protest rallies throughout the division,” he added.
