Following 18th Amendment, task for narcotics control was assigned to provinces
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government plans to raise its own anti-narcotics force to counter smuggling of contraband drugs in the province.
"We have completed necessary work for raising the force and draft legislation was moved to KP Assembly in this regard," a senior official in K-P Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department said on Wednesday.
Following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the task for narcotics control was assigned to provinces, and the K-P government, keeping in view the constitutional and legal requirements, is planning to establish its own force.
The practical work was started in 2013 in K-P and after several meetings of select committee of K-P Assembly with representation of all relevant stakeholders draft proposals for legislation was completed by the previous PTI government to make the dream come true.
