Police have managed to wrest back control of the Clifton grid station from armed men who had earlier stormed the station and turned power off.

According to KESC officials, police forces working on directives from Governor Sind, Dr Ishratul Ibad, stormed the station, allowing KESC staff to turn power back on to 27 feeders.

Armed people infiltrated the Clifton grid station in Karachi and shut down 27 power feeders, effectively cutting power to large parts of Clifton and DHA, including Bilawal House. While attacks against KESC installations and workers continue in various areas of Karachi

KESC management said that 11:45 pm on June 2, 10 armed men stormed the Clifton grid station and shutdown 27 feeders of 11Kv each. This resulted in suspension of power to Bilawal House, Ziauddin Hospital, Bath Island, Shirin Jinnah Colony, Kemari Centre, along with parts of Clifton and DHA.

CBA union workers forcibly shut down help line centre 118 located in Civic Centre. CBA workers harassed call centre workers and fired shots in the air.


According to some reports a KESC repair team which was working to repair a pole mounted transformer (PMT) in Punjab colony area was also attacked. Repair workers sustained injuries as a result of the attack.

Express 24/7 reporter Shehryar Mirza reported that rangers and police had cordoned off the station and were preparing to storm the building in a bid to regain control over the power station.

The law and order situation has worsened over the past few hours as violence related to the strike call given by the ANP. Many cars and buses have been torched and reports of indiscriminate firing have been coming in from various areas.

A bus at Regal chowk in Sadar was burnt. Meanwhile reports of heavy firing from Gulistan-e-Johar area have also been received.
