PAT legal team held reservations about the legal team prosecuting the Model Town case

The provincial government on Saturday replaced the prosecution team of the Model Town case being heard in an anti-terrorism court (ATC), Express News reported.

The government of Punjab replaced deputy prosecutor general Hafiz Asghar, Sheikh Saeed and Waqar Abid Bhatti and appointed Abdul Rauf Watto, Imtiaz Supra and Azra Sultan to "speed up proceedings".

A notification confirming the change of prosecution has also been issued.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) legal team held reservations about the legal team prosecuting the Model Town case and had asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to replace it and appoint a new team.

The premier had assured the PAT chief that the government will not back away from providing justice and implementing the law.

While talking to the PAT chief on phone, the prime minister assured the PAT chief that everyone involved in the killing of PAT workers would be brought to justice.

On September 26, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had dismissed an appeal filed by PAT.

The petition requested the court to summon Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif and former PM Nawaz Sharif in the Model Town case
