ISLAMABAD: The government will not back away from providing justice and implementing law, Prime Minister Imran Khan assured chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the PM’s Office, the prime minister assured the PAT chief that everyone involved in the killing of PAT workers would be brought to justice.

LHC dismisses appeal to summon Nawaz, Shehbaz in Model Town case

On September 26, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had dismissed an appeal filed by PAT.

The petition requested the court to summon Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif and former PM Nawaz Sharif in the Model Town case.

PAT also filed an appeal, challenging a verdict by an anti-terrorism court.

The appeal named Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahebaz, Rana Sanaullah, Khwaja Asif, Saad Rafique, Pervez Rasheed, Abid Sher Ali and Chaudhry Nisar as respondents and requested the court to render the ATC ruling inadmissible.

Former Inspector-General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera challenged the inclusion of his name in the petition’s prosecution list. Sukhera insisted that he was not involved in the Model Town incident.

A police assault outside the residence of Dr Qadri killed 14 people on June 17, 2014.

The PM told the PAT chief that all people involved in this crime would be dealt with sternly irrespective of their stature.

Appreciating the PM’s assurance, Dr Qadri said that hope had rekindled among families of the victims of the Model Town incident.

“They will all be grateful to the prime minister if justice is done,” Dr Qadri is learnt to have said.
