Even with the tribal areas merged with the province, the Japanese government on Thursday said that it will continue support for a UN-backed seasonal livelihood programme in the region.

This was announced by Livelihood and Production Department Secretary Abdul Latif and Japanese Ambassador Takashi Kurai during an evenT in Islamabad. They said that geographically, the districts which were formerly known as the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), are vulnerable to disasters where poorly-constructed mud and stone houses and other weak infrastructure are often washed away by rains and flash flooding.
