Hospitals to ensure drug availability in Punjab

Minister says rules and laws must be followed during the procurement process of drugs

Punjab Minister Health Dr Yasmin Rashid has directed all public sector health facilities to ensure sufficient drugs stock, particularly at emergency wards of hospitals. She issued the directives while chairing a meeting at Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department on Thursday. She said process of procurement of fresh stock of drugs has been started and no compromise on quality of the medicines would be made. The minister further directed the authorities that rules and laws must be followed during the procurement process. “All district health authorities keep updated the health department regarding medicines stock and further requirements,” the minister said. She said medical superintendents of all DHQ and THQ hospitals should forward their requisition to their respective health authority for further proceedings. “There will be no shortage of funds when it comes to matter of public healthcare,” assured Dr Rashid. The minister said drug testing procedure should be completed on fast tracks and expressed her satisfaction over SOPs of health department regarding drugs procurement and delivery to basic health units (BHUs) level.
