53 students exhibit models, sculptures, paintings and fabrications.

LAHORE:

The final thesis display of the final year students of the Beaconhouse National University (BNU) started on Thursday.

The theses of 53 students of the School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) were displayed at the Tarogil Campus.

The SVAD includes the departments of fine arts, jewellery and accessory design, textile design and visual communication design.

Students presented their projects in the forms of paintings, sculptures, models and fabrications.

Focusing on diverse contemporary arts, the students expressed their creativity through projects that they described as products of their experiences, perceptions and ideologies.

Models of historical monuments, displayed in glass jars, captured the attention of many students and visitors.

Jewellery and accessory design students had made transformable ornaments that could be worn as a broach or divided into earrings, bangles and rings. Saher Bashir, the department head, said, “Our aim is to break free of the conventional jewellery worn traditionally, without ignoring the importance of our heritage. With gold prices going up, students have provided alternatives by experimenting with marble, glass and acrylics.”Prominent displays included the use of visual optics to symbolise the Hindu philosophy of Maya, textile and fiber models of a prayer mat, beads, a coffee shop, glow-in-the-dark yarn, and the Bogja and Ralli craft.

Appreciating the thesis display, Rana Rasheed, former National College of Arts professor, said that BNU was not bound by history and traditions and created its own diverse approach.

The display will continue till June 5.
