LAHORE:

The chief justice (CJ) of the Lahore High Court had a man arrested for ignoring a family court’s orders to pay a maintenance allowance to his wife and two children.

A Sialkot court had issued arrest warrants for Ashfaq Siddiqui for not appearing before the court and not supporting his children’s upbringing and his ex-wife. Moazzama Zubair then filed a petition in the LHC asking it to enforce the orders.

She said that Siddiqui had divorced her after getting married for a third time and had kicked them from the house. She said that the family court had in 2007 ordered him to pay Rs4,000 each for his ex-wife and son and Rs3,000 for his daughter in a monthly maintenance allowance. But he ignored the court order.

Siddiqui said he wanted to keep Zubair as his wife. However, she said she did not want to live with him.

Her lawyer told the court that arrest warrants had been issued for Siddiqui. The CJ summoned police personnel and directed them to arrest him and produce him before the court concerned.
