SC seeks parliamentary debate record on 18th amendment

The Supreme Court (SC) instructed for a record of the parliamentary debate on the 18th amendment to be presented in the court on Thursday.

The 17-member larger bench is hearing a set of identical petitions challenging certain provisions of the 18th amendment.






Advocate Akram Sheikh argued that the procedure for appointing judges was not included in the mandate of the parliamentary committee. He further said that the amendment had not been translated into regional languages.

He also requested for Article 175, dealing with the procedure of appointing judges, as null and void.

The court also sought a record of the debate on clauses related to the judiciary.

Attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq said he will present the record of parliamentary debate tomorrow.

The hearing was adjourned till Thursday.
