The Sindh government has asked for a clarification of a Sindh High Court (SHC) judgment in a petition on the appointment of advisers and assigning portfolios to them.
Adnan Karim Memon filed the revision petition and appeared before the bench, comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Shahid Anwar Bajwa, on Thursday. The judges put the respondent, Alf Jatoi, who petitioned the court questioning the large number of advisers, on notice for an unspecified date.
The review petition seeks a clarification of the judgment. It said that the chief minister has powers under the law to assign any function to any of his advisers. The SHC had said that advisers cannot hold a portfolio and that is something the Sindh government has sought a clarification on, Memon told the media after the hearing.
A few days ago, an SHC bench had announced that the appointment of 17 advisers, against five provided in the constitution, is illegal.
