BJP nominates Narendra Modi for Nobel Peace Prize

Party's Tamil Nadu chief urges others to follow suit

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president Tamilisai Soundarajan said on Monday she had nominated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Nobel Peace Prize The Indian Express reported.

In a statement, she said she had nominated Modi for launching the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana- Ayushman Bharat -- the "world's-largest health scheme".

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for launching the world’s largest healthcare scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana- Ayushman Bharat by Tamilisai Soundararajan. The “path-breaking initiative” of the “visionary” prime minister will transform lives of millions of people, especially the underprivileged and vulnerable, the statement read.

“The last date for Nomination for Nobel Peace Prize 2019 is January 31, 2019. The nomination processes start in September each year."

The BJP Tamil Nadu president also called on others to nominate Modi for the honour. Tamilisai's husband P Soundarajan, a nephrology specialist, has also nominated Modi for the Nobel.  "University professors and members of Parliament among others can also nominate our prime minister," the statement read.

Modi termed the initiative, launched on Sunday, the biggest healthcare scheme the world over. He said it was a "game-changer initiative to serve the poor with the number of beneficiaries almost equal to the combined population of of Canada, Mexico and the United States.

robie | 5 years ago | Reply aren't people having their heads scratching? did not Mr. Vajpayee asked Mr. Modi for tolerance after Gujarat violence in 2002 and after the elections Mr. Vajpayee realised and expressed himself portraying Gujarat violence the reason for the BJP, also call it a mistake to keep Mr. Modi at his seat.
