How Aamir Khan's 'Thugs of Hindostan' bears similarities to Johnny Depp's 'Pirates of the Caribbean'
Even Twitterati thought the same
KARACHI:
It's no news that Bollywood superstars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan will be coming together for the first time in the much awaited film Thugs of Hindostan. While the trailer is yet to be released, it recently shared the first look of the characters that will be playing crucial roles. And we spotted a slight resemblance to the characters featured in Hollywood's celebrated franchise Pirates of the Caribbean.
Aamir plays a thug named Firangi who gives major Captain Jack Sparrow vibes essayed by Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. While the Dangal actor is not seen sporting dark eyes or a beard in his character reveal, it does hint at the comedy that Johnny brought to the screen as both actors sport unruly hair. We also found a bottle of alcohol hanging from Firangi's belt much like Jack's obsession with rum.
Big B plays the leader of the thugs in Thugs of Hindostan and even his character takes hints from another Pirates of the Caribbean star, Hector Barbadoss to be specific which was portrayed by Geoffrey Rush. While Hector donnes a pirate hat in the Disney project, Amitabh replaces it with a turban in Thugs of Hindostan. But the white beard and armoured ensemble stay true to Hector's attire.
Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, both of whom have worked with Aamir before, will be the leading ladies of Thugs of Hindostan. Katrina's avatar looks like it has taken inspiration from Penelope Cruz who essays Angelice in Pirates of the Caribbean - a former love interest of Jack. The big hair and dark, piercing eyes of Suraiyya - Katrina's character - look a lot like Angelica's.
On the other hand, Fatima displays a perfect Elizabeth Swann which was played by Keira Knightley in the hit franchise. Feisty and full of energy, Fatima sports a bow and arrow as a replacement to Elizabeth's swords.
But it's not only us who pointed out that Thugs of Hindostan is eerily similar to Pirates of the Caribbean. Twitterati noticed the resemblance as well.
One Twitter user derived the formula of the upcoming release and wrote, "Pirates of the Caribbean - budget - VFX + masala * songs = Thugs of Hindostan."
Another said that even the music that was featured in the upcoming Bollywood release's logo reveal matched that of Pirates of the Caribbean.
While Thugs of Hindostan hits screens across the world on November 8, we're still waiting to see a surprise Will Turner appear in the film.
