LAHORE: Rejecting reports about a possible deal behind Nawaz Sharif’s suspension of prison sentence, Senator Mushahidullah Khan said that reports predicting that he (Nawaz) would keep silent were all baseless conjectures.

Nawaz Sharif, he said, would never abandon his narrative and the sentence’s suspension had only reinforced his resolve.

He insisted that no matter what, there “will be no change in Nawaz Sharif’s narrative”.

Terming reports of a possible deal behind the suspension decision utterly ludicrous, he said: “Let us suppose we have struck a deal. Would the rumor-mongers care to tell what we got out of this deal?”

He said that if Nawaz Sharif could have struck a deal, he would have done so during the prolonged sit-ins.

“Why now, after losing so much in this fight?” he said.

Nawaz Sharif, he said, was fighting an ideological war, from which he would never back down, adding that he would soon resume his normal political activities.

Sharifs’ release: A boon for PML-N

Commenting on Nawaz Sharif’s inactivity, he said that he (Nawaz) had just returned from jail and he and his family were still grieving over Begum Kalsoom’s death.

People, he said, should not expect any immature action from Nawaz Sharif. “He is the most seasoned politician in the country.”

He said that he had met with Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday and he was not aware of any decision about keeping mum till the ‘Chaliswan’. “The Chaliswan has nothing to do with the party.”

Commenting on reports suggesting that former Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal was unable to meet Nawaz Sharif, he said that he could have made “an unscheduled stop at Jati Umra”.

Interestingly, Rana Muhammad Iqbal had gone to Jati Umra on Thursday and tried to meet Nawaz Sharif but failed to do so.

Rana Muhammad Iqbal denied that Nawaz Sharif had refused to meet him, saying that he had been told that Nawaz Sharif was busy in another meeting and would take him nearly an hour to meet him. He said that since he had another commitment, he had left.

PML-N’s spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the family was still coping with Begum Kalsoom’s demise and talking about politics of Sharif family at this time was unfair.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif spent the day in Jati Umra, where he laid a floral wreath on his wife’s grave.

A senior party leader said that Nawaz Sharif should wait it out till this case concluded before making any public appearance.

He said the party rank and file did not know about Nawaz Sharif’s plans. He said that they expected him (Nawaz) to hold a meeting after the Ashura holidays for devising a strategy to revitalize the party.
