Supreme Court issued orders to seal clinics in April

LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has sealed 5,260 quack clinics since the Supreme Court issued the orders in April. In addition to this, the commission has also visited 18,300 treatment centres. Out of the 5,260 quacks that were sealed, 5,400 closed their establishments to start other businesses. The district administration also inspected 3,130 premises and sealed over 1,500 outlets under the Punjab Healthcare Commission Act 2010. The data shows that since April, the commission and district authorities collectively have inspected 21,486 treatment centres and have sealed the businesses of 7,000 quacks. Around 845 clinics were sealed in Lahore, 447 in Faisalabad, 368 in Gujranwala, 360 in Sheikhupura and 350 in Kasur. Moreover, so far the commission has received more than 2,900 applications regarding further action. Fines worth Rs119.66 million have been imposed on the quacks.
