Hong Kong flag-carrier Cathay Pacific got its own name wrong on a new aircraft, BBC reported on Wednesday.

The airline incorrectly inscribed its name as "Cathay Paciic" on the aircraft in question. Passengers at Hong Kong International Airport made the airline cognisant on spotting the faux pas.

"Oops this special livery won't last long! She's going back to the shop!" the company responded in a lighter vein.

While the Honk Kong flag carrier termed the blunder a genuine mistake, some in aviation called it inexplicable.

"The spacing is too on-point for a mishap," an engineer at Haeco, a sister company of the airline, told South China Morning Post. "There should be a blank gap in between letters if it was a real mistake I think."
