13 candidates contesting in Rawalpindi by-elections

Elections for NA-60, NA-63 to be held October 14

RAWALPINDI: Total 13 candidates are in the run for October 14 by-elections in NA-60, Rawalpindi-IV and NA-63, Rawalpindi-VII, two constituencies of Rawalpindi District.

Eight candidates are in the running for NA-60, Rawalpindi-IV and have had their nomination papers cleared by Returning Officer NA-60, Rawalpindi-IV and have been allotted symbols.

This includes Independent candidate Aftab Ahmed Qureshi, has been allotted a jeep symbol, Pakistani Awami League candidate Asghar Ali Mubarak, has been given the symbol of a hockey stick, Independent candidate Tehmina Sajjad Khan, has been allotted a butterfly symbol, Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan candidate Zahid Aqeel, a crane symbol, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Sajjad Khan, a tiger symbol. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Sheikh Rashid Shafique, the party’s bat symbol, Independent candidate Muhammad Azhar Aslam, a combat tank and Independent candidate Muhammad Qaiser Mir Dad Khan has been allotted an ice cream symbol.

Similarly, five candidates are running for NA-63 Rawalpindi-VII including Independent candidate Syed Haider Ali Shah, has also been allotted a jeep symbol, Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians candidate Syed Ishrat Ali Zaidi, an arrow, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) candidate Aqeel Malik, a tiger, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan candidate Qurban Ali a crane and PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf candidate Mansoor Hayat Khan has been allotted a bat symbol for the by-elections.

The candidates are in the run for the by-elections in NA-63 Rawalpindi-VII as their nomination papers were cleared by the Returning Officer NA-63.

According to the Returning Officers, no one will be allowed to violate election Code of Conduct issued by Election Commission of Pakistan during election campaign for By-election 2018. They stated that action in accordance with the law would be taken against the violators. Public office holders cannot participate in the election campaign in any manner whatsoever.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the by-elections will be held on October 14 for the National and Provincial Assembly seats which became vacant due to death of contesting and returned candidates, resignation and postponement of the elections. The by-elections will be held in Rawalpindi division on four National Assembly seats including, NA-56 Attock-II, NA-60 Rawalpindi-IV, NA-63Rawalpindi-VII and NA-65 Chakwal-II and two Punjab Provincial Assembly seats PP-3, Attock-III and PP-27 Jhelum-III.
