ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sheikh Amir Waheed called upon the government to review its decision of raising gas prices from 10% to 143% for domestic consumers. “The Economic Coordination Committee’s approval of increase in gas prices would make the life of a common man more miserable,” he remarked. Waheed added that increase in gas price will significantly enhance the cost for the common man while it could also give rise to inflation. He urged the government to not enhance gas tariff for the industry. “Pakistan is facing rising fiscal deficit and one better option to reduce this deficit is to promote the country’s exports,” he said. He was of the view that hiking gas tariff for industry would affect production activities and further reduce exports.
