Awareness effort: HEC, Pink Ribbon renew pledge to fight breast cancer

Over one million students sensitised on breast cancer hazards

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pink Ribbon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), pledging to create Breast Cancer awareness by directly approaching female students of all colleges and universities.

HEC Executive Director Dr Arshad Ali and Pink Ribbon Chief Executive Officer Omer Aftab signed the MoU at the HEC Secretariat.

HEC Learning Innovation Adviser Shaheen Khan, Learning Innovation Director General Fida Hussain HEC officials and other notables from industry and academia also attended the ceremony.

The MoU is aimed at promoting research projects on different aspects of breast cancer, organising professional education seminars and workshops, and forming a working group for need assessment and formulation of action plan for another five years.

The HEC and Pink Ribbon jointly coached more than one million female students across Pakistan on breast cancer hazards and challenges in the last five years under the Pink Ribbon Youth Programme.

Addressing the MoU signing ceremony, Dr. Arshad Ali assured all possible support on behalf of HEC and vowed to serve as a bridge between Pink Ribbon and higher education institutions to increase awareness about breast cancer among the youth of Pakistan. He appreciated Pink Ribbon for reaching out to 1,050,000 young girls through educational institutions to create awareness about breast cancer during last five years.
