PCB backs Inzamam after nepotism allegations
Chairman Ehsan Mani meets chief selector and assured him support from the board
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani has met the chief selector Inzamamul Haq and assured him full support in the ongoing nepotism scandal.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the meeting has ended all the speculations about the future of the 48-year-old as the head of the selection committee.
The report further stated that the meeting took place on the request of Inzamam as he wanted to figure out the stance of the PCB chairman on the matter.
The nepotism controversy started when legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir accused Inzamam that he called U19 chief selector Basit Ali over the non-selection of his son.
In response, Inzamam released a video message on his Twitter account, where he not only denied the allegations, but also said that he will resign if they were proven to be true.
Later, Basit also came forward in Inzamam’s defense and said that he never received a call from the former Pakistan captain.
But Qadir, who is famous for his blunt remarks, stood by his statement on Wednesday as well, and asked Basit to come forward and apologise for giving a wrong statement.
This is not the first time when Inzamam was accused of nepotism, as he came under criticism after the selection of nephew Imamul Haq in the national side as well.
