Victim got engaged to accused’s son six months ago

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: An 18-year-old girl was shot dead for allegedly befriending a man in Phalia tehsil, Mandi Bahauddin on Thursday, Express News reported.

A police official said that the girl, a resident of Rasool Pur, had gotten engaged to Azmat Ali’s son Waqar Azmat around six months ago. He added that Ali had suspicions that the girl had developed a relationship with another man.

On the day of the incident, Ali and one of his sons Arsalan Azmat came to meet the girl’s father Tariq Mehmood over the matter. Both parties exchanged some harsh words and when the argument escalated, Ali pulled out his pistol and opened fire on the girl. As a result, she suffered multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. The culprits managed to escape from the scene.

Paharianwali police have registered a case against the suspects on the complaint of victim’s father and are conducting raids to arrest them.

Earlier on August 27, a woman and her friend were allegedly shot dead over honour in Jhang’s Saddar area.

Police said that 24-year-old F* had befriended 30-year-old I*.  They used to meet up, unbeknownst to their families who did not know about their relationship.

On the day of the incident, the woman went to her friend’s house to meet I*. In the meantime, the woman’s father and other family members came to know about the matter. In a fit of rage, the woman’s father Iqbal, uncle Yaseen and two cousins rushed to the spot and opened fire on them. As a result, both victims died on the spot.
