Woman's body exhumed in Bhittai Colony graveyard

KARACHI: A woman's body was exhumed in Bhittai Colony graveyard, within the limits of Sacchal police station, who had been murdered and silently buried two weeks ago in the name of honour. A post-mortem was performed by a medical team under the supervision of judicial magistrate which suggested that the victim was shot seven times.

On August 28, 18-year old Safdana, wife of Usman, was killed allegedly in the name of honour and discreetly buried at night at a graveyard situated in Janjaal Goth. The murder was detected when the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) personnel at Sea view arrested and investigated four suspicious men named Muhammad Ramzan,

Yousuf, Jan Alam and Aryaullah. The four men got worried and accepted their involvement in the murder, based on which they were arrested and handed over to Sacchal police station where a case was registered on Safdana's murder.



On Tuesday, under the supervision of Judicial Magistrate Mali Sagar Ali Khan and the medical board, Safdana's grave was dug up. The medical board included police surgeon Dr Aijaz Ahmed Khokhar, additional police surgeon Qarar Abbasi, lady-medico officer Dr Syeda Seema and Dr Sonomal.

Speaking to media after the excavation, Abbasi said that the victim had been shot seven times, from close range, in the neck, arms and legs. He added that assault marks were also present on the victim's body. Abbasi further said that the victim was buried in a box. He shared that the post-mortem had declared bullet wounds as the primary cause of death.

An investigation officer said that the four men arrested were relatives of the victim and the information they provided helped them locate the grave and dig it up. He further said that the prime accused in the case was the father-in-law, Saifullah, and added that others also involved in the case had escaped, however, efforts were being made to arrest them.
