Heinous act: Woman sexually assaulted in Gujranwala
Victim was on her way to meet relatives when accused abducted her
GUJRANWALA:
A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in Gujranwala on Tuesday.
A police official of Saddar police station told Express News that victim S*, a resident of Fort Abbas, submitted a complaint, stating that she went to meet her relatives in Jandiala Baghwala area.
She added that while she was on her way, Muhammad Zaman abducted her and took her to an abandoned house.
The victim said the culprit allegedly raped her and fled after committing the offence. The police shifted the woman to the hospital for treatment and medical tests.
A case was registered against the suspect on the complaint of the victim and raids were conducted to arrest him. Further investigations are under way.
Earlier, on September 10, a woman was abducted and raped in Faisalabad.
Police said that victim R*, a resident of Railway Colony Mohallah, Nishatabad, lodged a complaint at the police station in which she stated that Muhammad Shafique was a friend of her husband. She stated that the accused used to visit their home and promised that he would arrange a job for her in a factory.
The victim narrated that on the day of the incident, Shafique called her and said that they had to go to the factory to meet someone for the job. The woman maintained that she reached Lorry Ada where the accused was waiting for her on a motorcycle.
She said the culprit took her to a house where he and his accomplices Muhammad Sarwar, Muhammad Muneer and an unidentified man gang-raped her.
In recent months, cases of sexual abuse have been on the rise across Punjab. Despite these incidents occurring on a daily basis, the government’s counter measures have been largely disappointing.
Most cases have been reported from Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala and other parts of the province. The victims include women and minor girls or boys.
