Mayors to resist any attempt to abolish LG system in Punjab

No one can dissolve current district government assemblies and their five-year mandate, they say in a press conference

Mayors of different cities said on Saturday they would resist within the ambit of law if an attempt is made to abolish the current local bodies (LB) system.

‘Proposed LG system to ensure transparency’

Lahore Mayor Col (retd) Mubashar Javed, Mayor Faisalabad Razzaq Malik, Mayor Multan Chaudhry Naveed Araen, Mayor Bahawalpur Aqeel Anjum, Mayor Sahiwal Asad Ali and some others held a press conference at a local hotel and vowed to resist any move against the ongoing LB system.


They said that they would welcome suggestions from the incumbent government for the betterment of the local government system. They said that they had been given a mandate for five years and none could dissolve the current district government assemblies.

Punjab minister wants changes in LG system

They added they were ready to serve masses, along with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
