Waqar happy with series win

Pakistan coach looks forward to the much-needed rest.

BELFAST:

Pakistan coach Waqar Younis praised his team for a ‘wonderful job’ after they shrugged off the cold to complete a 2-0 One-Day International series away to Ireland.

A much-improved batting performance by the home team give Pakistan a victory target of 239 which the World Cup semi-finalists passed for the loss of five wickets.

“This game could have been dodgy but everybody chipped in,” said former Pakistan captain Younis. “Coming straight from the West Indies to such cold weather is never an easy thing. With so little time, the boys did a wonderful job.”

Pleased with Umar

Meanwhile, Younis also praised Pakistan’s young batting talent Umar Akmal who saw the team home on Monday with an unbeaten 60 from just 48 deliveries.

As well as Umar, Pakistan have another promising youngster in fast-bowler Junaid Khan, who followed up his success in the Caribbean with another good performance in helpful conditions in Belfast.

Meanwhile, Younis also added that he and his team are happy to finally get some rest which is essential before they participate in other international tournaments.
