LAHORE: As speculations are rife that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) elected members of local governments are planning to change their loyalties, the party on Wednesday called a local government convention at Central PML-N Secretariat in Lahore.

The convention, however, according to PML-N was a consultative session with mayors and chairmen of party leaders to review the decision of the provincial government of replacing the local government system with a freshly designed system and suspending the existing local governments.

The convention will be presided over by PML-N Punjab leader Hamza Shehbaz and will be co-chaired by former law minister Punjab Rana Ssanaullah, former local government minister Manshaullah Butt.

The dark days are about to end: PML-N

The convention would be attended by Mayor Lahore Col (retd) Mubashar Javaid, Mayor Sargodha Muhammad Aslam Naveed, Mayor Faisalabad Muhammad Razzaq Malik Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Muhammad Naseem Khan, Mayor Multan Haji Naveed Arain, District Council Chairmen Narrowal Ahmad Iqbal, Sheikhpura Rana Attique Anwar, Kasur Rana Sikandar, Hafizabad Mian Muhammad Afzal Hussain, Mianwali Gul Hameed Khan Rokhari, Gujranwala Mazhar Qayum Nahra, Multan Dewan Syed Muhammad Abbas Bukhari, Rahim Yar Khan Sardar Azhar Khan Laghari, Rajanpur Abdul Aziz Khan Dareshak and Sahiwal Chaudhary Zahid Iqbal.

It was revealed that the party wanted a tight grip on local governments and didn't want to lose its members to PTI. It was also revealed that Hamza will start holding district-wise meetings soon to keep everything in check himself.

The party would be chalking out its plan to thwart the provincial government from suspending the existing local government system. Hamza has already warned the provincial government against the suspension of the existing system.
