LAHORE:
Karachi police have arrested TV personality Ali Saleem, aka Begum Nawazish Ali, for possessing liquor and allegedly indulging in suspicious activities.

Local star Meera, on Wednesday, slammed the authorities for arresting Saleem over alleged possession of liquor.

"Ali Saleem is an innocent man," the Nazar actor told The Express Tribune. "I believe he wasn't involved in any illegal activity."

Meera, who was present at the time when officers, dressed as civilians, raided the bungalow, revealed there were others present in the bungalow where they were shooting for a film.

"The set was ready and our shooting was cancelled after the incident. We have no idea where Ali is right now," added the actor. "Since it was a film set, there are certain props required as per the script. However, during his arrest, there wasn't a single item that was deemed objectionable."

"I'm still surprised why Ali has been arrested," Meera continued. "I would like to request the government to release him and arrest the actual criminals, not artists. We are innocent and hardworking."

According to SSP South Umar Shahid, police raided a bungalow in the city's Clifton area after receiving information of a kidnapped child.

Several people were taken into custody during the raid, including Ali Saleem. Liquor bottles were also recovered at the bungalow.

The police have registered a case of drugs against the suspects. The bungalow is reportedly used as a guest house.
