Three held for trying to defraud people
An Islamabad resident told the Shalimar police that he had been approached by three men
ISLAMABAD:
Police have arrested three men who had allegedly tried to swindle millions in the name of awarding tickets for the ruling party in the upcoming by-polls.
An Islamabad resident told the Shalimar police that he had been approached by three men who claimed they were connected to the top echelons of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and that they can get a party ticket for anyone who was willing to pay the right amount.
Rustam Ali Gul told police that he knew a man in Sahiwal who was willing to pay Rs25 million to get the party’s electoral ticket. He discussed it with the three suspects who told him to give them Rs25 million and that they would convince the party leadership to award the ticket.
The deal — and the con — fell apart when Gul demanded that he be taken to the residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and de facto PTI headquarters in Bani Gala and pay the amount to the party leadership himself. The three men, however, refused to take him to Bani Gala and insisted that he hand over the amount. Suspecting that something was wrong, he approached the police and lodged a complaint against the men.
