Saleem Sabri protests non-payment of compensation

Associate of Amjad Sabri says he did not get positive response from authorities

KARACHI: Saleem Sabri, an associate of renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri, protested in front of Chief Minister House on Monday seeking the Rs1.5 million compensation that the Sindh government had announced earlier.

Saleem had sustained injuries when gunmen killed Amjad Ali Sabri in Liaquatabad in 2016. After the incident, the provincial government announced a compensation for Saleem, but even after the passage of two years, the amount remains unpaid.

Saleem showed the newspaper clippings and other correspondence of provincial government regarding compensation and said, "I am tired of visiting the officials. No one gives a positive response," he lamented.

"I used to assist Amjad but after his death, I have no money to pay rent and take care of my children," he said, demanding the provincial government to release his compensation and give him a job in any government department.



Referring to his programmes for Shaukat Khanam Cancer hospital, Saleem said, "I along with other qawwals have performed for the fundraising of the hospital. Even today, I am ready to perform for the fundraising for Bhasha Dam."

CM Murad Ali Shah took notice of the protest and ordered the authorities to release the amount. Speaking to media, chief minister's advisor on law, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, said that the compensation would soon be released to Saleem.
