MULTAN: Rescue 1122 officials received 99,395 fake calls during August. The authorities have expressed concern over the situation as it could affect genuine relief work by the rescuers.

District Emergency Officer Dr Kaleemullah said this while speaking to APP on Monday.

He said that Rescue 1122 was equipped with softwares which help in assessing such fake calls.

'Forwarded as received': The fake news dilemma

To a question about nature of fake calls, Dr Kaleemullah maintained that the fake calls included kids call, musical calls, information seeking calls, and some other obnoxious calls. “Sometimes, citizens call and start seeking information about railways or other departments.”

He pointed out that Rescue 1122 had eight phone sets in control room for receiving emergency calls.
