FIA arrests 97 government officials for corruption
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 97 government officers on alleged corruption charges.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 97 government officers on alleged corruption charges and for causing a loss of over Rs 724.90 million to the national exchequer during 2008-09.
According to official data available, the amount recovered from these officials was Rs 11,928,250 and cases were under trial against the officials.
The data revealed that 28 officials of the Utility Store Corporation (USC) misappropriated Rs 37.51 million during the two years period.
The ex-chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and the director commercial were also found to have fraudulently manipulated the purchase of 5,000 MT of Met Col allegedly at extremely exorbitant rates and the shipped them on highly inflated rates compared to the market rate, and caused a loss of Rs 490 million to PSM.
The two accused were also held in other cases of corruption and were being investigated, the data said. Five officials of the Sale Tax department including one additional collector, deputy collector, assistant collector and senior clerk caused a loss of Rs 73,957,500 to JS Bank.
The other government officials were accused of corruption cases were held for illegal gratification of money, taking bribes and fraudulently withdrawing money from government exchequer.
