Management of Anwar Majeed’s sugar mill booked for possessing illegal weapons

FIR was registered on the complaint of an FIA official

HYDERABAD: Police lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday against the management of a sugar mill owned by Anwar Majeed's Omni group for allegedly possessing unlicensed firearms.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Inspector Mohammad Saleem Malik.

Earlier this week, an FIA team, aided by Sindh Rangers, raided Omni group’s sugar mill and recovered seven sub-machine guns (SMGs) and four Kalashnikovs assault rifles which were handed over to police.

The mill owner, Majeed who is in FIA custody, is a close associate of former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

FIA officials did not disclose the purpose of the raid but it is believed it was in connection to the on-going inquiry against Majeed.
