Lahore grapples with unscheduled load shedding
Citizens complain about prolonged power outages in almost all areas of the city

Frequent tripping and unscheduled power outages have once again gripped the provincial capital making the routine live miserable for the citizens in hot and humid August.
Lahorites continue to suffer prolonged power cuts
Citizens are complaining about prolonged power outages in almost all areas of the city. Muhammad Usman, a resident of Township, said nearly six hours power load-shedding was being observed in his neighbourhood besides frequent power tripping. He highlighted that the Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) has started unscheduled load-shedding in the past few days. Almost all young children and infants in our house have to spend their night awake due to frequent power tripping,” he highlighted.
Another citizen Aslam Khan said he lived in Garden Town area where there was usually low power load-shedding. However, load-shedding in his area has been increased since Tuesday. Similar complaints were also being made by residents of several other areas of the city.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, an official of the power utility company indicated that the company was facing power deficit of around 600-800MW but in most areas, the company was managing load as per announced schedule. However, the burden of demand and supply gap was being transferred to areas where recovery rate was low.

On Wednesday night, he highlighted that a technical fault had occurred in the transmission system which caused tripping in Sheikhupura grid station and resulted in the suspension of power supply to many areas of the city.
