The multi-award winning production house DNA Films will be teaming up with documentary experts Passion Pictures for the untitled film on the football legend. Producers Andrew MacDonald, Allon Reich and John Battsek made the announcement on August 28, adding that the documentary will be directed by Alex's son, Jason Ferguson.
Jason has been working on the film for over two years now and the documentary will mark his directorial debut. It will feature exclusive and unrestricted details of Alex including his family and close friends. It will delve deep into the 76-year-old's incredible life displaying accounts from Old Trafford to Salford Royal Hospital where he was treated for brain hemorrhage, earlier this year.
Speaking of the documentary, Alex said, "I have been approached many times over the years to make a film on my life but did not feel comfortable until this point. When the team behind this project was presented to me, and after we spent time discussing their thoughts and approach, I felt confident that I was in good hands. The process so far has been natural and enjoyable, and I look forward to making the best film that we can."
Andrew added that he has put up a great team together for the film that will ensure delivering a powerful and emotional rollercoaster. He shared, "Jason has a deeply intimate and trusting relationship with his father and the bond between them makes him uniquely positioned to elicit the unfiltered, honest and emotional truth from his father."
