Sources said locals caught a suspicious person from the banned organisation Jamat ud Dawa's mosque in Lahore on Tuesday. Locals handed him over to police where he confessed to monitoring the movements of Hafiz Saeed.
He said he belonged to a banned organization, which had planned to assassinate Saeed. Police sources have confirmed this incident.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court had earlier upheld the freedom of Saeed, who was accused of masterminding the Mumbai attacks, dismissing government appeals against his release from house arrest.
Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had backed the Supreme Court's decision, stating that proof provided by India against Hafiz Saeed was not legally tenable.
