8 most bizarre celebrity items ever auctioned
Some of these would truly stretch the limits of your imagination
What items come to your mind when you think about an auction? A famous designer’s piece of clothing, an artist’s painting or a celebrity’s tresses maybe? But, there are some items that have been put up for auction that would truly stretch the limits of your imagination. Compiled from Hindustan Times, here is a list of a few of the most peculiar items that have not only been auctioned but also BOUGHT!
1. A slice From Queen Elizabeth’s wedding cake
In 2013 a piece of cake from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 1947 wedding cake sold for around £560. The slice, which is still edible thanks to its high alcohol content, was bought by an unnamed bidder from Los Angeles. The four-tiered, 9ft cake was nicknamed “the 10,000-mile wedding cake” after its ingredients were flown to the UK from South Africa and Australia.
2. A violin from the Titanic
The instrument belonged to Wallace Hartley, who played it as the Titanic was sinking and was also amongst the ones who died in the tragedy. The violin was sold for £900,000 within 10 minutes of the auction that took place in 2013 in Wiltshire.
3. Brangelina’s breath
A jar containing former Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s breath reportedly sold for a paltry £340 in 2010. The seller's advert said, “Be the first to win this jar of celebrity air, which may contain air molecules that came in direct contact with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.” Well, that’s pushing it a bit too much now!
4. Elvis Presley’s underwear
Gross! An unwashed underwear belonging to Elvis Presley, worn by him during his 1977 concert fortunately failed to sell when it was put up for auction in 2012 for $11,000.
5. Justin Timberlake’s half-eaten French toast
After Justin visited the radio station Z-100, he left behind his half-eaten breakfast. Little did he know that the station would put the item up for auction. Surprisingly, an excited N-Sync fan bought it for $3,154 and the proceeds went to Timberlake's charity.
6. Scarlett Johansson’s used tissue
This just keeps getting worse. We don’t know what anyone would want to do with the starlet’s snot, but what we do know is that someone bought it! Weirder too, Scarlet blew into the tissue whilst on an American chat show and announced that she would sell it for charity. It raised $5,000 for the non-profit organisation, USA Harvest.
7. Britney Spears' hair and… used chewing gum
When the artist shaved her head in 2007, her hairstylist put up her locks for sale for $1 million. The general public believed that the asking price was a bit much and the item was soon removed from the selling site. What’s funny though is that on another occasion, one of Britney’s fans actually bought her USED piece of gum for $14,000.
8. JK Rowling’s chair
The chair that author JK Rowling sat on to write the first two Harry Potter books recently sold at an auction in New York for nearly $400,000. Rowling picked up the furniture piece for free when she was struggling for cash back in the day.
