ISLAMABAD:

The managing director of National Education Foundation (NEF) lodged an FIR against six officials of the foundation for threatening him after he exposed their “corruption and irregularities”.

Kamran Zafar, MD NEF, registered the FIR in Margalla police station, nominating Faisal Shahazad Awan, director Punjab Region and Siraj Din, project director for being involved in “corruption, nepotism and financial embezzlement”. Four others were nominated for physically thrashing and threatening him, namely Kashif Sohail, Shahbazul Haq, Naeem and Munir.

He mentioned that he had written to the prime minister, secretary education and secretary establishment that Faisal Shahzad, director Punjab, in connivance with Project Director Siraj Din, committed serious corruption by misusing funds allocated for salaries and fuel. He stated in the application that in the light of these irregularities, he sacked them, but instead of following official orders, they raided his office and threatened him of dire consequences.

He claimed that Awan and Siraj Din, along with their four accomplices, came equipped with lethal weapons and stopped him from going to his office in sector G-8 on May 27. They also thrashed him physically. He further said that they snatched his car bearing number K-S-II, Honda Civic and took it to an unknown location.

However, sources said that there are serious irregularities in NEF due to some political appointments with high clout. This was the reason some provinces were reluctant to adopt NEF due to its pending liabilities.
