CJP dismayed over OLMT delay
He makes it clear that the newly-elected government must be taken into confidence to complete the project
LAHORE:
Chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar expressed his displeasure over the delay in the Orange Line Metro Train project. He made it clear that the newly-elected government must be taken into confidence to complete the project at any cost.
OLMT project to face further delays
A three-member bench, headed by CJP Nisar, started proceedings on a suo motu notice taken over the mega project. Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan were other members of the bench hearing the case at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry on Friday.
The CJP sought a specific time frame for the completion of the project, saying Lahorites had suffered greatly due to delays. An official of Habib Construction Company, a contractor for the Orange Line Metro Train project, appeared before the court. He revealed that almost 90% of the work had been completed, while other construction at different points would be finished by a Chinese company. He added that it may take between three and four months for this work to reach its conclusion.
He told the court that two cheques issued to his company had bounced.
The CJP questioned how cheques issued by the state could not be cleared and ordered that the finance secretary be summoned over the matter. He ultimately sought a reply from the government official in this regard.
CJP to jet off to Europe on dam mission
CJ Nisar asserted no leniency would be shown for any contractor and affidavits would be taken from them over the exact timeline to complete the project. He also ordered them to submit the relevant time frame.
