45,046 police officials to perform security duties in Sindh

IG wants strict implementation of Section 144 during Eidul Azha celebrations

HYDERABAD/ KARACHI: More than 45,046 police personnel have been assigned security duties across the province on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

According to the security plan, police personnel will be stationed at all the main Eid congregation places, mosques, imambargahs, shopping centres, markets, parks, beaches, important public and private buildings, offices, airport, railway stations and bus stands.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi has also directed the police to ensure strict implementation of the Section 144 during the Eid celebrations.

In addition to the regular police force, commandos have also been deployed at sensitive locations in the provincial capital. The Rangers will also be coordinating with the police regarding security on Eid.

According to a police spokesperson, the security plan was approved by IG Saleemi, who directed the police to ensure that all main prayer grounds, mosques and imambargahs are cleared before Eid congregations.

As per the security plan, more than 18,609 police personnel will perform security duties in Karachi's 3,143 mosques, 207 imambargahs, 34 jamaatkhanas, 439 prayer grounds, 222 open places for sacrificial animals and 794 camps for hides collection. The police personnel will also carry out snap checking and patrolling in the city on 566 police mobiles and 218 motorcycles.



Meanwhile, more than 26,437 police personnel will perform security duties in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad.

 

Hides collection

The provincial government has already issued a code of conduct for the collection of hides of sacrificial animals by volunteers and workers of various religious, social, political and other organisations.

The code of conduct aims to prevent confrontation among workers of different organisations. According to the code, prior permission from the home department or the district coordination officer concerned will have to be obtained for the collection of hides and only such parties, organisations and institutions will be given the permission that are registered and have signed the code of conduct.

Organisations have been barred from making appeals for hides through loudspeakers from mosques or anywhere else. The restriction has been imposed to enable people to donate hides of their sacrificial animals to organisations of their choice without any coercion.

The code also prohibits door-to-door collection of hides and skins as it may result in undue coercion.

The code of conduct specifies that workers and volunteers of organisations engaged in hides collection must possess their computerised national identity cards, identification card of their organisation and a copy of the permission granted by the home department while they are collecting or transporting hides.



 

Security in Hyderabad

Eidul Azha prayers will be offered at more than 900 locations, including 11 major Eidgahs in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The Hyderabad police will deploy 2,500 policemen and 200 police commandos in addition to Rangers personnel for security.

Besides the biggest congregations at 11 Eidgahs, 285 other large congregations will take place in the city.

Eidgah Rani Bagh, Qadam Gah Moula Ali (RA), Old Eidgah Cantt, Bagh-e-Mustafa ground in Latifabad, Bilal Eidgah in Amani Shah Colony and Eidgah Paretabad will host the largest congregations.

Police spokesperson Mazharul Haq alias Shani said on Tuesday that a bomb disposal squad will clear all the large places of congregation before the Eid prayer. He said that police will also be deployed at graveyards.
