Bohra community celebrates Eidul Azha
KARACHI:
The Bohra community celebrated Eidul Azha with religious zeal and fervour across the country today.
Their largest congregation took place at the Tahiri Mosque in Saddar Karachi where a few thousand members of the Bohra community offered Eid Prayers.
After the Eid prayers, the community members performed the ritual of sacrificing animals following the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Special security arrangements were made and large contingents of paramilitary and police forces guarded more than a dozen Bohra Mosques in different areas of the city. The community is small in number, with a little over 30,000 members living in the metropolis.
The Bohra community celebrates Eid on a single day across the globe. The date of Eid in a Bohra community is pre-decided scientifically and hence celebrated on a single day, explained one member of the Bohra community.
Zilhaj moon sighted, Eidul Azha on August 22
The Bohra community, which is mainly associated with trade and business, is considered one of the most peaceful and progressive communities of Karachi and other trading hubs across the province like Hyderabad and Sukkur.
Their spiritual leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin also visited Karachi last year and spent the first days of Muharram in Karachi among his followers.
