LAHORE: Roasting the heads and hooves of sacrificial animals has been banned on Eidul Azha and the administration will lodge FIRs against violators, said Lahore Division Commissioner Mujtaba Piracha on Monday.

Roasting the heads and the hooves of sacrificial animals produces an unpleasant odour which is a nuisance for citizens and may potentially harm their health, he said.

Maintaining cleanliness on Eidul Azha will be the administration’s highest priority. All the arrangements to maintain cleanliness have been finalised, but results cannot be achieved without citizens’ help and cooperation, he stressed.

“Garbage bags were also being distributed at people’s doorsteps and at animal purchasing centres in the whole division, including the provincial capital,” he stated.

At the union council level, 299 camps are being set up by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to maintain cleanliness within the city and to promote the cleanliness campaign during Eidul Azha, he added.

The cleanliness operation, under several agencies including LWMC, will start from Tuesday and continue till the end of Eidul Azha. The administration in Nakana Sahib district, Kasur and Sheikhupura district were conducting cleanliness operations in district councils, municipal committees and union councils, he said.

He also directed officials to ensure that all complaint centres and numbers are fully functional on Eidul Azha to facilitate citizens.

The commissioner appealed to citizens to participate in the cleanliness plan. “Not only is it our religious obligation, but it also the need of the hour,” he said. “Citizens should contact the management and get bags to dispose of offal properly,” he concluded.
