Punjab Assembly speaker to perform governor's functions until further appointment

President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday accepted Punjab governor Malik Mohammad Rafique Rajwana's resignation.
A notification issued by the government confirmed that the "speaker of the Punjab Assembly shall perform the functions of the governor until further appointment".
Governor Rajwana tendered his resignation on August 15 after serving at the post for more than three years. The reasons for his resignation remained unclear as he announced he would resume his legal career while speaking to the media at the Lahore High Court Bar Association.

“Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) entrusted me with this post and I tried to repay their confidence with the best of my abilities.”
The development came as newly-elected members of the Punjab Assembly took the oath, commencing a new five-year tenure for the provincial legislature.
