GUJRANWALA:
The district administration has finalised preparations to launch a crackdown on over 2,000 factories reportedly causing environmental pollution. The factories will be sealed and cases will be registered against their owners after Eidul Azha.
‘Local admin trying to protect environment’
Officials told Express News that more than 2,000 factories have been reportedly causing environmental pollution in different parts of Gujranwala District. A grand operation has been planned against them after Eid.
The district administration took the decision in a meeting which was held earlier with the Municipal Corporation Opposition Leader Yahya Butt.
When contacted, Yahya Butt told Express News that smoke from alkane burning can cause dangerous diseases, including cancer. “Toxic emissions from burning furnace oil have made residents’ lives miserable and are making them sick,” he added.
Water, environmental crisis may worsen
He said several factories in the district are using lethal furnace oil to manufacture rubber, tires and alkanes.
He said cases will also be registered against factory owners exercising political influence.
