COMSATS plans to plant 20,000 trees

Saplings will be sown at places specified by CDA, as well as at CUI campuses

In connection with 72nd Independence Day of Pakistan, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) launched its “Azadi; Adopt a Tree Plantation Campaign,” seeking to plant over 20,000 trees of various species.

The plants will be sown at places specified by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), as well as at CUI campuses in Abbottabad, Wah, Lahore, Sahiwal, Attock, and Vehari, a press release Wednesday said.

As part of its efforts towards a sustainable and green environment, CUI Rector Dr Raheel Qamar committed to caring of the plants for two years and ensure that the planted saplings become healthy trees for saving Pakistan’s environment.

The rector said that CUI has set the precedent of utilising its own resources and collecting funds for plantation drives.


Qamar also said that it is the civic duty of every citizen to play a part in maintaining the beauty of our homeland and protecting environment of Pakistan.

50 trees at Sindh Agriculture University chopped down, sold

Islamabad Chief Commissioner Jouhdad Ayaz, Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation Chief Officer Najaf Iqbal and Additional Secretary Education Farah Hamid were also present.

They planted trees to inaugurate the campaign and encouraged faculty members, students and other citizens to join the activity on a larger scale to help the Government of Pakistan protect the environment.
