Celebrating independence on the green

The tournament was planned to celebrate Pakistan’s 72nd Independence Day.

KARACHI: 144 players participated in the UMA Independence Day Golf Tournament at Karachi Golf Club (KGC) on Tuesday.

The tournament was planned to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day of Pakistan by KGC and United Marine Agencies (UMA), the event’s sponsors.

The winning team comprised of players Salim Adil, Khurram Khan, Omar Faruque and Arshad I A Khan who won with a score of 12-uner-par (60). The team with commodore Ghazanfar Abbas, Commodore Zafar Mahmood, Comdore Saad Bin Jabbar and Commodore Majid Satti scored a gross 11-under-par (61). The commodores came in second.

36 teams consisting of four players each took part in the 18-hole tournament. All players and officials attended a flag-hoisting ceremony in the morning before the games begun.

“It’s the day when our beloved country was born and we should always celebrate in a befitting manner,” said Sohail Shams, CEO UMA. “We at UMA are always endeavouring to do our best to promote a positive image of Pakistan,” he said.

Prominent players who took part in the tournament included former national champion Murtaza Qasim and Asad I.A Khan, President Sindh Golf Association (SGA).
