Fatal plunge: Two held after woman falls to death at party
Police believe she accidentally fell from third floor and died
ISLAMABAD:
Police have detained on Tuesday at least two people on suspicion of involvement in the death of a woman who reportedly fell from third floor of an apartment building in Sector E-11 on Monday morning.
However, police investigators believe SG, the victim, either fell accidentally or it was a suicide attempt.
SG was from Kamalia in Toba Tek Singh district and lived in the capital with another woman named RA. Police claim both were involved in a base trade.
Police quoting RA said that on Monday night both went to a party at an apartment at Khudadad Heights in Sector E-11.
They were there for hours before SG went out to the terrace of the flat to make a call. RA told police that when she did not return for five minutes, she went after her but found her lying injured on the ground of the building near the reception. RA said she took her to Pims where she died at around 7am.
Police arrested RA and one of the men who had arranged the party in the flat that night, after the victim’s brother lodged a complaint with the police against RA and unidentified people.
Investigators have interrogated both the suspects and have also visited the site from where she reportedly fell. The suspects told the police that RA and SG both were already acquainted with the men who had arranged the party. There was no payment involved or prostitution per se for this meeting, police say.
The flat belonged to a Somalian national but he had rented it out to F, who was in police custody. Police say F and some of his fellow students had called the two women for the party that night.
“We have not ruled out the possibility of murder, but it seems she fell accidentally,” a police officer said. The victim’s brother had nominated RA in his complaint but police say they checked her phone record and found nothing which could suggest foul play. A police official said the victim was also mentally disturbed due to her recent breakup and was also on drugs. “She was apparently drunk at the time. A water bottle but liquor inside it was found there at the terrace she fell from,” an official said. “There were three-four student-type guys who had arranged the party. One has been arrested and we are trying to locate the others,” he added.
After a post-mortem and medical examination at Pims, the body was handed over to the family. Swabs were also collected from her body and sent to lab to determine whether sex or assault was also involved.
