Police kills one of the suspects in an exchange of fire during another robbery

KARACHI: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl was shot and killed allegedly by armed bandits during a mugging incident in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the police claim to have killed one of the suspects in an exchange of fire at the Akhtar Colony signal on main Korangi Road while the suspects were trying to rob another citizen.

According to District South SSP Omar Shahid Hamid, three street criminals had just snatched a mobile phone from a citizen when a motorcycle squad of the Madadgar police helpline engaged them, adding that one of the robbers was killed and two others managed to flee the scene.

The police also claim to have seized a pistol and ten stolen mobile phones from the possession of the deceased robber.

Police bust gang of robbers, two muggers

The seven-year-old girl was identified as Aymal, daughter of Omar Adil. She studied at a school in DHA. Her body was handed over to the family for burial after medico-legal formalities were completed at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

SSP Hamid said that the robbers had shot Aymal during a robbery within the limits of the Gizri police station and had then crossed into District South, where the encounter took place during a second robbery that the gang was committing in DHA.

He clarified that the minor girl was not shot in the same incident and that there were two robberies committed by the same gang.

The suspected robber has yet to be identified as no one has approached the morgue to claim his body.

Police officials said that the deceased robber, along with his companions, were busy snatching mobile phones, cash and other valuables from citizens and they had robbed at least seven people in Korangi and DHA when the police intercepted them.

A case was registered by the police and further investigation is under way.
