Assembly speaker, now an acting governor, cannot take oath from newly elected MPAs

After the resignation of Mohammad Zubair as the Sindh governor, an interesting situation emerged regarding the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected MPAs.
As per the assembly laws, former assembly speakers take oath from newly-elected members. However, in the absence of the governor, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani is now serving as an acting governor therefore he cannot take oath from the newly elected MPAs.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Sindh Assembly Secretary Umer Farooq Barro said that as per the law, the acting governor can nominate any judge or person for oath-taking ceremony under assembly rule clause 6 section 2.
He said that no legal problem had arisen in deciding on the person who would administer the oath as a provision is already there in the rules for such a situation. Sources said that acting-governor Durrani has started consulting legal experts to avoid any controversy in the future.
