ISLAMABAD: Gunmen robbed a jewellery store shop in Alipur area of the city on Saturday and made away with ornaments and cash to the tune of Rs3 million.

The jeweller told The Express Tribune that three young men, riding on a motorbike, visited his store on Saturday evening.

Two of the men barged into his store armed with pistols while the third waited outside.

“They looted 60 tolas of gold (0.75 kilogrammes) worth around Rs3 million as well as Rs50,000 in cash and a mobile phone,” jeweller Imran Butt said.

The robbery, Butt said, took place at around 5pm in the afternoon in the busy Alipur bazaar located on Lehtrar Road.

After looting the shop, Butt said, the gunmen dismantled his network of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed throughout the store and took away the attached video recorder.

“The two gunmen who entered the shop were wearing the masks while the third stayed outside on the motorbike. They were speaking Pushto,” Butt said.

The jeweller added that his partner was at the shop when the robbers struck but he could not spot either the number plate or shape of the bike.

The Koral police said that they had collected fingerprints from the spot and were investigating the case but have so far found no clues to the suspects.

“A case has been registered against unidentified robbers but so far they have not been identified,” said Koral SHO inspector Muhammad Arshad.
