Drunken violence: Begum wriggles out of police custody

Ali Saleem granted bail against surety bonds.

ISLAMABAD:

A trial court Friday granted bail to TV persona Ali Saleem (Begum Nawazish Ali), who was arrested yesterday on charges of beating up his mother under the influence of alcohol.

Saleem was produced before the district court where police requested the court for his 14-day judicial remand.

The court was informed that his mother had filed a complaint with the Bhara Kahu police that her son had beaten her up. They said that his mother later forgave him for the act, but Saleem was also booked for being heavily drunk.

However, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Industrial Area Imran Ali granted him bail against surety bonds of Rs20,000.

Ali Saleem, a host of popular television talk show was arrested on May 26. According to police, he was heavily drunk and had beaten up his mother, breaking her nose.

Police said the cause of dispute between Saleem and his mother, Farzana, was the possession of a house in Bani Gala. He asked his mother to pay him over Rs13 million for the house since he had borne the expenses of its construction.

Police said that the house was registered in the name of his mother. However, Saleem claimed that it was his property. His mother was willing to pay him eight million rupees for the house while he was insisting on another Rs5 million.
